Prison Application Requirements

Your criminal history is not a barrier to gaining approval. When filling out the application answer the questions honestly. When the application asks “have you ever been arrested, charged or convicted of any felony” it means EVER. Misdemeanors charged or convicted in the last 10 years need to be documented.
The CDOC strongly recommends that people be out of prison for a year so that they can demonstrate positive behavior before they apply. If applying prior to a year you may be denied for not being able to provide that pattern of positive behavior.
If you have ever been convicted of a Sex Offense or Assaulting a Peace Officer, do not apply.

An AA Corrections Volunteer will review the next steps with you
An approval e-mail or denial letter is sent when the access check is complete
This contact will include instructions for scheduling the Basic Volunteer Training (BVT) training and the training schedule.
Training is held Saturdays online once a month and takes about 6 hours
You are notified of your approval status and asked to select a date for a Facility Orientation and Tour (held once a month)
Then we match you with a current volunteer as well as review dress code and decorum for your first few meeting inside.

Starts at 5:00 and meets at the DRDC Gate House 10900 Smith Rd, Denver, CO 80239
Once the DRDC tour is complete we drive over to the DWCF 3600 Havana St, Denver, CO 80239
Complete the Volunteer Facility Orientation paperwork
Your clearance notification should be on its way to you within the week
